Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
