Manchester City's manager Voices Regret Over Camera Operator Incident Following Defeat to Magpies

Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" after an exchange with a TV crew member in the wake of Manchester City's 2-1 defeat away to the Magpies on Saturday.

At full time, a visibly upset Guardiola stepped onto the field and had heated discussions with the referee, Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I said sorry," Guardiola stated. "I'm humiliated, regretful, when I see it. It's not acceptable. I immediately apologized to the operator. I am who I am. After 1,000 games I’m not a perfect person, I make huge mistakes."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. The reason why I support my squad is no doubt – because from my experience to clinch the title we have to do 100 points, high nineties, or we fall short."

City's Position and Guardiola's Assessment

The team sits in third and are seven behind the Gunners after what was their fourth league defeat of the season. "Losing four games out of 12 we have to improve a lot," he conceded. "Technically, we can still achieve all."

When questioned if this meant the quadruple could be achieved, Guardiola answered: "You are an experienced journalist, did you hear my talk about the quadruple in December during our historic run? Never."

Exchange with Bruno

Regarding his confrontation with Guimarães, the coach explained: "I've known him for many years and every time after the game, even at the Etihad, we talk in the tunnel. We often meet and I always have a good relationship. I love it. I’m an emotional guy, I like discussing and gesticulate."

Guardiola would not be concerned should a rival coach spoke to his players immediately after a game. "No - as long as it's respectful like I always have done, it’s not a problem," he noted, before referencing Barrott. "He was part of it throughout the match, he was involved. My God, he was involved."

Controversial Decisions

The team felt aggrieved that the officials denied a spot-kick for a Fabian Schär challenge against Foden, while they also questioned Bruno's positioning when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Pictures published later indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Next Big Match

He will manage of his 100th Champions League game versus Leverkusen this week. "That's impressive, showing we compete we have been there," he said.

City have 10 points after four games in the group, while Leverkusen have five.
