Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Military Operations.

Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in response for a "massive" and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the United States has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Additional Developments

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said debris landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
