House of Representatives Set for Decisive Vote on Concluding Record-Breaking Federal Closure

A funding package that would conclude the most extended federal closure in the nation's history is advancing toward the House of Representatives for a critical decision on midweek.

On the sixth week of the budget deadlock, congressional members are coming back to Washington to vote on whether to pass a Senate package that would support federal agencies for the next eight weeks.

GOP leaders stated assurance the budget proposal would clear the House of Representatives, notwithstanding their slim advantage. But Democratic leadership promised to vote against it.

"We're reopening our United States," he declared on the previous day at a military commemoration in the Virginia suburb. "Should have never been shut down."
