Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative said the incident made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
